Oregon’s Choice began with Captain Herb, a commercial fisherman out of Newport, Oregon.

Back in the early days, he started doing something a little different. Instead of selling his catch to large canneries, he sold it directly to families off the dock. He took great pride in how he handled each fish and believed that if people could taste truly fresh, well-cared-for tuna, they would immediately know the difference.

He was the pioneer of “from my boat to your table.”

As demand grew, he began canning his catch and became the first fisherman to can his own fish under his own label. The quality was so much better than what most people had experienced with canned tuna, and word spread quickly. Some of those early customers are still with us today.

Today, we still source our albacore tuna from the cold Pacific waters off the Oregon coast, where it is caught one at a time using sustainable hook-and-line methods.

From there, it is canned right here in Oregon in small batches at a local micro cannery, allowing us to maintain quality from start to finish.

We keep things simple. Just high-quality fish, a little sea salt, and nothing else.

Nearly 50 years later, it still comes back to the same thing. Care, quality, and respect for the ocean and the people who depend on it.
